Last Monday, we published the Farming2020 Presentation schedule. You can view it under the Programme tab above this blog post. From a New Zealand perspective, it’s a schedule designed to map established major New Zealand agribusinesses with the country’s start-up and emerging AgTech ecosystem. It meets the main mission statement that Farming2020 shared at inception.
Today, we are delighted to announce more headline speakers who will be sharing their vision for the sector’s long-term future at next week’s signature Techweek 2017 event.
Joining Rob Trice, founder of both the Mixing Bowl and Valley-based Better Food Ventures, for the ‘Taking New Zealand AgTech to the US’ Fireside Chat on Thursday 11th May, will be Silicon Valley Venture Capital icon, Bill Reichert. Bill is Managing Director and co-founder of Garage Technology Ventures, one of the San Francisco Bay area’s most established VC firms.
The session is being introduced by US Consul General, Melanie Higgins.
Following Rob and Bill’s Fireside Chat, Dennis Donohue, Head of the Western Growers Center for Innovation & Technology will be joining the session via live video conference from Salinas, CA.
Because of the limited seating capacity at the Hooper Innovation Centre (maximum 75), we have introduced a ticketing system to help manage expected numbers. Tickets are priced at just $25, plus GST for the full two-hour ‘Taking New Zealand AgTech to the US’ session. Tickets are available on the Eventbrite website at https://www.eventbrite.co.nz/e/taking-new-zealand-agtech-to-the-us-tickets-34019751994 This will be a ticket-only entry session.
The rest of the three day Farming2020 Programme remains free of charge.

Another new headline speaker is Kevin Cooney, Head of Agri Markets at ASB. Kevin will be joining the ‘Welcome to the Future of AgTech in New Zealand’ session on Wednesday 10th May. Kevin will be sharing his vision for New Zealand’s emerging AgTech sector over the next few years with other industry thought leaders at the session.
Expect other speakers from the country’s major agribusinesses to focus on this aspect of Farming2020’s core agenda: How the New Zealand AgTech landscape is going to influence more sustainable farming practices over the next five years and how increased collaboration with the country’s startup and emerging AgTech business sector is going to help drive that change.
The team from Fonterra Farm Source will be focusing on this aspect of their vision following the recent conclusion of the Farm Source Activate 2.0 initiative. Evelyn Seewald, Fonterra GM Operations and Farmer Services, will talk about Farm Source’s longer term strategy to engage more directly with New Zealand’s emerging AgTech sector.
With 28 presentations now in place, the Farming2020 Schedule is finally locked down. If you want to meet the presenters in person and engage directly with them, then the LIC Innovation Farm is the place to be next week. For those unable to attend, we will be updating this blog and the Farming2020 twitter handle (@Farming2020) throughout the event.
